Our Conservation Tariff
Our ability to say we want you to use less natural gas and mean it was made possible in 2003, when NW Natural became one of the first utilities in the nation to fundamentally change the way our rates are structured, called our Conservation Tariff.
What Is the Conservation Tariff?
NW Natural was among the first utilities in the U.S. to “decouple” the cost of maintaining our pipelines from the natural gas within them. This means our rates are structured so that we have no financial incentive to sell more gas—allowing us to mean it when we say we want customers to use less.
